Passion Flowers

I love passion flowers! They're native to Florida, butterflies love them, and they have amazing flowers. They're also called maypops. I have a white flowering one in my yard, but I really want one of these purple ones. This picture was taken at the Marion County Extension Office. It had two to three blooms open and about 15 almost ready to bloom. I bet it looks amazing this week.

I have one of these growing up into my scuppernong vine and I know I shouldn't allow it there, but it's so pretty ... what do ya do?

I brought home a few maypop fruits from a roadside cattle fence years ago and tossed them about, now the vines pop up everywhere.

I found out that a lot of the colors that I like are apparently hybrids or cultivars and don't have seed pods. But, I can still take a cutting!

I started these indoors from seed and the seeds took 3 months to germinate in a heated bed but it was well worth the challenge!
